Cebu City Invasion (PASAS, 2011) — Because we are workaholics who have no time for long-term friendships; because it is very rare that we get to travel with our better halves; because we miss each other; because three of us are turning 23 this December; because we refuse to admit that we are workaholics who have no time for long-term friendships; because we can; because being together was the best part of the trip.

Melissa’s Rule Of Thumb #2: Never ever attempt to hide the truth from your best friends. Believe me, sometimes they know you more than you know yourself.

Melissa’s Rule Of Thumb #1: Never, EVER shut down from someone just so you can keep the one you’re with. If they opt to shut down from you, then they’re not worth your time and effort.
And if, for some weird turn of events, you find yourself reading this blog, I tell you this: you are closing millions of windows with the decision you made. Remember that, kid.

The Start Menu.
A computer presents several options if we are thinking of leaving it in our room or office or where ever we are. They may have their respective functions but one thing’s for sure. They put the device on temporary mute while we go and live our lives outside. One thing I learned over the years is that you must never, EVER shut down from long-term friendships just so you could keep someone you’re, potentially-temporarily, with. I think it’s written in both The Girl Code and The Bro Code. If it’s not, then I say it’s pure common sense; a no-brainer if you ask me. In the same way, we are presented with certain options in the event that our other half decides to put walls around us from certain people.
Start, SHUT DOWN. The SHUT DOWN option is the first thing that we can click if we choose to leave our desktop. It requires the user to close all active windows, save all unfinished documents and such, so it can completely turn the computer off. Unsaved documents have no guarantee of recovering once the computer shuts down. If you’re lucky, you just might see them in the auto-recover column the next time you open Microsoft Word. Shutting down could mean a lot of things, depending on the owner of the desktop, of course. Some would say, they don’t need the computer for whatever they’ll be doing next. Others may argue that the computer is too big to carry around where ever they’re going. SHUT DOWN: completely turning someone off of your life so you can go on living yours without them.
Start, HIBERNATE | Start, SLEEP. We use HIBERNATE and SLEEP whenever we’re leaving our desktop for a short period of time, with a promise that we will resume and continue with whatever we’re doing once we’re back. A bit unfair for the computer, don’t you think? And we complain if it doesn’t operate as fast as it should when we’re gone for a bit longer than expected. We expect the same scenario and same, satisfying service as a gift for leaving it hanging for a long time. HIBERNATE and SLEEP: Unfair.
Start, RESTART. This might be the best solution to all software-related problems. The RESTART option allows you to refresh all the congested information happening all at once on your desktop. Why do people hit RESTART? One, there must be too much going on that the computer is having a hard time processing all the information the user is trying to input. Two, the user must have a lot of windows opened that the computer starts to have a hard time prioritizing them. What sets it apart form the first three options? It gives the user and the computer a chance to effectively work again. RESTART: Every “thing” and everyone deserves it.
Start, LOCK. I wouldn’t tag this one as “fair”. I would say it is safe. In every personal account that we have, we set a password. This is so we can keep certain information to ourselves. People have no right to know these pieces of information for reasons only we, the user, can determine. Why do we keep certain information from other people? First, and obviously, to exercise our right to privacy. Second, and not applicable to all, so we can protect certain documents from being read by people who are not supposed to read them. LOCK: Not necessarily fair, but safe and understandable.
Personally, I was once on the verge of shutting down. I kept on putting certain people on hibernate and sleep just so I can keep the peace between me and my partner. Again, and my last question: What sets me apart from most people? I decided to hit LOG OFF.

Some people say that it was just a matter of timing; that he caught me in such a vulnerable stage in my life and I was too desperate for attention that I gave in. Some would say that it’s about time that I start taking risks and just dive right in. Some, stay silent, and just let me make my own decisions and be happy with whatever I decide to do.
Sometimes, we find comfort in the company of the unlikeliest of people. Sometimes, we find comfort it in the simple laughs that certain people may bring. But for me, most of the time, I find it in the eyes of someone who sees through all the misery that my eyes may show. I find it in the willingness of a person to pick me up and help me stand up again. And once I am able to pick up the pieces and make myself whole, he’s all I see standing at the end of the tunnel.
